Casper Essential Mattress Reviews

The Expert Verdict
by Romain R

Casper presents its essential mattress, an all-foam-based mattress with three comfort layers for a bouncy feeling. The mattress delivers comfort and support for both kids and adults. The memory foam takes care of pressure points and gently curves around the body, making it an excellent choice for combo, back, and stomach sleepers.

Moreover, it uses breathable materials and an open-cell design to provide a cool and comfortable night’s sleep. The motion isolation and edge support also go along fine.

However, Casper’s essential mattress is a good option. But we still strongly recommend Saatva Classic as a more appropriate option. It provides all the above benefits with additional features for a more enhanced and better performance.

The #1 alternative we recommend

Who Should Consider Using the Casper Essential Mattress

We would suggest considering using the Casper Essential memory foam mattress if you:

  • Roll over to the bed edges during sleep and require good edge support for you and your partner.
  • Are looking for an all-foam mattress option to help with motion isolation when co-sleeping.
  • Are a back, stomach, or combo sleeper looking for soft and responsive support.
  • Require an incredibly good budget-friendly mattress option packed with quality and comfort like nowhere else.
  • First, want a 100-nights trial period before knowing whether it is the right fit.

Who Should Not Consider Using the Casper Essential Mattress

We suggest not considering using the Casper mattresses if you:

  • Do not want your foam mattress to go off-gas. Since almost every foam mattress is off-gas, however, luckily, with Casper Essential, it’s just mild off-gassing which even fades at the end of the day.
  • Want something more durable since the poly foam used in the mattress isn’t highly durable.
  • Need some to keep you cool throughout the night. Unfortunately, the cooling feature in the Casper element mattress isn’t as effective as it was supposed to be. This makes it not a much recommendable option for hot sleepers.
  • Are a light-weighted side sleeper and may even find it uncomfortable to adjust your body curves and proper body alignment.

Comfort and Firmness

The Casper mattress comes with a medium-firmness level. It offers excellent comfort and support for the whole body for light or medium-sized sleepers.

Casper Essential Mattress Reviews

Since Casper essentially lacks the support required for side sleepers. Therefore, we would recommend Saatva Classic as a better sleep option. It can support the side sleepers and the other sleeping positions and offers three different firmness levels.

Performance

Performance-wise, the Casper Essential mattress is not a poor choice. However, it uses high-quality materials along with Certi-PUR certification and offers 5 years of limited warranty. The foam used in the support layer as a base adds durability.

However, we still find Saatva Classic here as a far better option. It comes with a lifetime warranty and has more certifications for health and safety under its belt. It uses high-quality natural and organic materials that add more to its comfort. Moreover, its steel coils make it extremely durable.

Is it a Good Mattress for Back Pains?

Casper Element mattress is a good option for a back sleeper and gives no issues to the back. The mattress hugs the body correctly and supports other areas to keep the spinal naturally aligned throughout the night. It keeps the back side with hips and shoulders well aligned and all back-pain free.

Sagging and Edge Support

The sturdy base foam in the support layer of the mattress not only contributes to sagging resistance. It provides some durability from the base. Normally, the main issue with budget-friendly mattresses is that they cut down some of their features. However, the Casper Essentials surprisingly still offered good edge support.

Due to these results, we think Casper is closely competing with Saatva Classic. Therefore, you may consider Saatva Classic as a better substitute option if you want.

Motion Isolation

Casper took advantage of Saatva Classic’s below-averaged motion isolation performance, a common issue faced by hybrid and innerspring mattresses. Casper Essential all-foam designs help to absorb motion and do not make any transference. Your partner won’t feel disturbed at night.

Sleeping Position and Weight

The three layers of all-foam design and the medium-firmness make Casper Essential a good choice for back, stomach, and combo sleepers of average weight size. However, stomach sleepers didn’t find enough firmness, and the side sleepers couldn’t get a better pressure relief combination for the hips and shoulders with the spine.

Therefore, we would recommend Saatva Classic highly. It offers three firmness levels suitable for all sleeping positions and fulfills most other requirements very well.

Breathability and Heat Transfer

All three layers and open-cell all-foam design contribute to breathability and keeping its sleepers cool at night. However, it only keeps them neutral but not cooler, as one may think. The mattress does not have a special cooling technology, and neither does it retains heat very well.

Therefore, we highly recommend the Saatva Classic. It has a Poly foam and fiber combination, and pocketed coils provide better airflow that keeps sleepers cool at night and is considered the best option for hot sleepers.

Durability

The base foam at the supportive layer does provide durability, but it is still enough. The mattress only has CertiPUR-certification, which is a good point. However, it does not work well with a 5 years limited warranty.

The Saatva Classic, on the other hand, delivers far better in terms of durability, safety, health certifications, and, most importantly, lifetime warranty.

What is Casper Essential Mattress Made of?

What it holds inside in its construction matters more for a mattress than the outside looks. Casper Essential combines two layers of foam to offer breathability and pressure points relief with equal weight distribution. Check out below to see what is inside the all-foam mattress:

  • Mattress cover feels cool and soft and is made with upcycled cotton, recycled polyester, and various other materials.
  • The comfort memory foam layer can gently conform to the body curves and allow breathability with its perforated AirScape foam.
  • Support layer uses denser poly foam which helps with sagging and provides durability.

Is Casper Essential Mattress Flippable?

No, none of the Casper mattress’s designs supports flipping. Casper recommends using them correctly, as all the materials are strategically layered together.

Does the Casper Essential Mattress Come in a Box?

Yes, the mattress comes packed in a box and is always ready for easy use.

Is Casper Essential Usable With an Adjustable Bed?

Yes, if the adjustable bed is solid, you can use the Casper Essential mattress with the bed without any issues.

Is Casper Essential Mattress Made in the USA?

It is not clear if mattresses are U.S made or not. However, different sources confirm that Casper has a headquarter in New York, USA, and the showroom is in Chicago and New York City. However, the materials are sourced from China, India, Vietnam, and Portugal, which makes them a low-budgeted option.

Our Verdict

Casper Essential mattress is a good budget-friendly all-foam mattress option. It supports kids and adults of average size, weight, and body in many ways. However, if you want the same benefits and features and even more than what Casper offers, we highly recommend Saatva Classic with three different firmness levels. It has more durability, comfort, better performance, and, most importantly, a 364-night trial period with a lifetime warranty.
